Rugby Realty Co., Inc., is a preeminent real estate company formed in 1980 with corporate headquarters in New Rochelle, New York. Rugby has been involved in all aspects of commercial real estate, including the purchase, development and management of a broad range of real estate holdings. Rugby specializes in identifying undervalued properties and realizing their maximum value through careful development and management.

With properties in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Florida, Rugby Realty has taken a leadership role in redeveloping long abandoned but architecturally significant buildings. The principals of Rugby have successfully completed over five million square feet of rehabilitation.

Most recently, Rugby has focused on a number of projects in and around Pittsburgh’s revitalized Cultural District. The Gulf Tower, a 594,000 square foot historic landmark office building, was purchased vacant from the Gulf Oil Company in 1987. After completely renovating the building, occupancy was brought to over 92%. Eight other historically significant buildings were then purchased in the Cultural District including the Ewart Building and the May Stern Buildings. In 2005, Rugby began the historical renovation of 930 Penn Avenue into a 42,000 square foot, high-end, luxury apartment building with underground parking. By combining the unique architectural characteristics of these historic buildings with state-of-the-art renovations, Rugby has been able to create a strong demand for their space.

In 2001, Rugby formed Blackrock Realty, LLC, a joint venture with another Connecticut real estate developer, to pursue the development of a Fairfield office complex and new Metro-North train station. Blackrock Realty is developing the 35-acre site that will house a new, ADA-compliant, Metro-North Train Station with 1,500 commuter parking spaces, as well as one of Connecticut’s largest office parks. This new park will consist of approximately one million square feet of state-of-the-art office space, a Hilton hotel, and a health club, as well as several restaurants and retail stores. The complex will be built along Ash Creek, creating awe-inspiring views of the Long Island Sound. Blackrock Realty is also creating a greenbelt along the riverbank for the use of the entire community.

Most recently in Connecticut, Rugby Realty purchased a ten acre office park in Stratford, containing 139,000 square feet of Class A office space, as well as a 290,000 square foot distribution and light manufacturing center in Old Saybrook.

In addition to building, redevelopment and management, Rugby Realty, through its affiliated entities, owns and operates approximately 100 retail stores with familiar names such as Pay/half, Strawberry, and Bolton’s. A&E Stores, Inc., the affiliated entity, operates and manages these stores. Headquartered in Teterboro, New Jersey, A&E has the earned the distinction of being featured in Crain’s New York Area’s “Top 200 Privately held Companies” for the past number of years, rising to number sixty-three in 2005.
